O you will love these curves, I assure you that. WELCOME delivers once again with awesome freak-character artwork and stimulating color schemes. So why is a small no name company like WELCOME turning heads? Cause they’re doing their own thing. In a world full of monkey see monkey do, WELCOME speaks for itself.

Tyler shreds it. No spot . . . Lee builds one. He’s a creative person and can rip just about any spot we find. Tyler’s been hitting the streets hard. Haven’t herd of him, well you will soon. He’s filming parts for local projects including Animal Style, Chronicles of Gnarlia, and probably get a few clips in BROKE III. Tyler is of a breed all his own.

WHATS UP OSCAR HOWS THINGS BEEN?
Hey wassup Brian. Things have been great. Just trying to stay focused and balance everything out at the same time you know.

HOW WAS YOUR TRIP TO AZ? BEFORE THE CONTEST DID YOU THINK YOU’D FINISH AS WELL AS YOU DID? WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT EVERYTHING?
That trip was amazing man. Chris Gonzales introduced me to some rad homies that I actually became really cool with so that hole week went by smooth. Couldn’t have gone better. Throughout the week before the contest I had a bruised foot so I was a little bumbed out, not so confident in myself you can say. To tell you the truth I was a little intimidated that there was going to be so many talented skaters out there. So my hole attitude about the contest was to just go out and have fun and try my best. I was throwing IcyHot on my foot constantly and just had fun skating with the homies. If it wasn’t for You, Chris, the Mainline crew, and all the AZ homies that was there giving me support and giving me that positive energy I wouldn’t of pulled it together and took 5th. So I thank all of you guys!

MUSIC VIDEOS! . . . WHAT WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE OF WORKING ON A PROJECT WITH EMINEM AND LIL WAYNE?
Yeah it was a random gig. All the homies were out skating when Kico gets a call from our friends Danny Minick asking if we wanted to come out and do some work. I guess they just needed some skaters or what not. I Really like Lil Wayne’s music so I couldn’t believe it at first. I thought Kico was just messing with me but sure enough we were on set for the music video. I’m supper hyped that I was given that opportunity to have a few clips in their music video. I had an amazing time for sure!

SO YOU PICKED UP A NEW SPONSOR, WRECKLESS WAX . . . YOU STILL LOOKING FOR A BOARD HOOK UP?
Yeah Wreckless Wax is sick, its actually really good wax! A bunch of the homies already were riding for it so I excepted their offer. Really cool guys too. I haven’t tried sending my clips out or anything, I’m just trying to let something fall into place you know.

GOT ANY SKATE HAPPENINGS COMING UP?
Everyday skate is happening homie. Nothing big planned right away but I’m kinda bummed I’m not hitting Minneapolis Damn Am this year. That would’ve been fun.

Last friday I was lucky enough to land this gig shooting an event for Red Bull and it was a awesome experience. Adam Bollinger is a student at Chapman University and for his senior project was given the opportunity of interviewing Pro Surfer Ian Walsh. The whole event went smoothly and the environment was perfect since Chapman is a film school. The set looked amazing, lots of people showed up, and Red Bulls were popin’ everywhere. Ian shared his childhood experiences with his dreams of being a surfer traveling the world and how things have developed into his life today. He spoke about sponsors, day to day life, and even some expectations for the future of his career. It was really cool to get some insight into the mind of a Pro Surfer especially one that is so down to earth like Ian. Thanks Red Bull!

This was my second trip to AZ for PHX Am and the contest was insane. Actually the entire weekend was jam packed full of good times with tons of friends and great night life. During the contest so many kids where throwing down. With the theme being “Junk,” it certainly gave the park a unique feel and allowed for some crazy obstacle options. It was awesome to see such a high level of skateboarding and everyone on Sunday seemed to step their game up even more. Peeps like Caples, Berle, Blauvelt, Jaws, Langi, Tucker, Beasley and so many others where there makin’ big things happen. Last year the World Industry team killed it and they were there again this year ripping. But this time it seemed to me like the Real guys were on top of their game. Antoine Asselin showed up and blowed up on Saturday by qualifying first for the finals then Ishod Wair had his back on Sunday by winning first place overall. The homie Oscar Meza took 5th and I’m so stoked for him, congrats to Ishod, and Jeremy Peckham took best trick which was rad. Thanks to Vans for an amazing event and Im definitely looking forward to another hot PHX Am next year.

I’ve recently moved back to San Diego and its been really good. Originally I moved away to try and “grow up.” Have I? Damn if I know because I’m still doing the same things I did before, skateboarding and shooting photos that is. I guess Im more focused because money and girls use to consume my every thought but right now I could careless about both. Family/friends, photography, and skateboarding is all I care about now a days and its nice. Maybe I’m selfish . . . Maybe I’m suppose to find a girl, knock her up, and get a real job. No thanks I’d rather do my own thing.

BIRTH OF BROKE . . .
It was a hardware company first, David Bonwell, Sean Mynster and I thought of the idea in front of a 711 about 7 years ago

WHEN WAS THE FIRST PRODUCTION OF BROKE BOARDS, HOW MANY?
It was 50 boards and that was about 3 years ago

HOW MANY BROKE BOARDS HAVE BEEN MADE TO DATE, GRAPHICS & TOTAL COUNT
We have had 7 graphics and about 350 boards made

FAVORITE LOCAL PARKS & ROAD TRIPS
Probably Renette Park or Memorial. We go to San Francisco and Arizona about 4 times a year

ANY FUNNY BROKE STORIES YOU WANNA SHARE
There’s a lot of them . . . We got kicked out of a hotel in Arizona once from El Chris being stupid. It was right after a Chargers game, he had stolen an 18 pack and thought he was LT running through the hotel with it and got caught. And the best was when we gave a guy who just robbed a bank a ride home and didnt know until after when I saw that my car was on the news.

SHOUT ‘EM OUT . . . LIST THE CURRENT BROKE FAMILY
Its not always possible to drive around hunting down the best street spots each and every skate adventure. So its nice to kick back, save a little gas money, and have a good time at the park.

Mr. Cox compiled all this footy over the weekend and put together a quick edit for our viewing pleasures.

It was awesome to finally meet David Serrano. Go peep DVS’s Shopliftin’ Battle where David helped Platform Skate Shop take the title for best video. He is crazy talented on a skateboard so it was a bummer when he busted his foot at the first spot. He’s got a few other skills as you can see by how great the video above was shot. David also showed us a remote lil skate haven at his friends ranch were they have a bunch of ramps & boxes. It was definitely a good time and I cant wait to chill again.

For me this is my favorite skate event each year and this time I was lucky enough to cruise early with Chris (GonzGoneWild) and help the Vans crew set up. It was cool to watch everything come to life in the fake city of Paramount. It’s by far the most unique place I’ve ever seen a skate comp held, plus with the skate features being created by the skaters themselves it makes Vans DTSD one of the most creative out there. I enjoyed cruising around and meeting so many new friends. Its fun being caught up in the moment and watching everything that goes down. Catching everything through the lens is difficult so during the contest I really just kicked back and let the good times roll. How can you beat it . . . VANS made it snow it LA. Watch it on FuelTV™

We chilled for a minute and I showed him a few spots around LA/SD. Gab came down this way again recenlty and here’s a few of the easy going photos we got.

Today my good friend Shane cruised over to the GonzWal Studio (aka two bedroom apt.) and showed me the new line up from Welcome Skateboards. At first glimpse you’ll be struck by how awesome these graphics are and left staring at all the cool colors. They give you a choice between your standard popsicle that comes in a variety of sizes and a custom Welcome Punk shape(8.5”). Did I mention the quality is top notch? If you dont believe me Shane and I went out and captured a few visuals to show you how great Welcome Skateboards truly are.

FIRST PRO YOU LOOKED UP TO

FIRST EVENT YOU ATTENDED (AND MAYBE YOUR THOUGHTS FROM THE EXPERIENCE)
The first was probably some random Ocean Beach comp or something, I’m not really sure. But my most memorable was the ASR tradeshow about 4 years back, when it still had a lot to do with skateboarding and its future. I was walking with 2 friends of mine, Jared(Cheney) and Bryan(Skandunas) along the free skate course on my way to sign up for a Tradeshow comp. I had just met Kareem(Cambell) for the first time and I’ll admit I was still a little starstruck from it as I was chattin it up with my homies. Then I crossed paths with another star of skateboarding Mr. Theotis Beasly. Upon catching each others eye immediately all I could say was, “Theotis, dude, wow man you rip man. I’m proud of you dawg for real. My name is-” and before I could say it he said it for me. He not only knew my first and last name but he had also said that he watches my part on “Vitalskate.com” (r.i.p) and was hyped on it.The only thing I could think of was how many times Ive watched his part in the “Baker Has A Deathwish” video. We shook hands and left it at, “I’ll see you soon friend.” That day, not to be cheesy, changed my life. To feel like I was actually recognized and respected by someone whom I had respected and admired myself. That day I learned 2 things: That no one is too small for respect and acknowledgement and that not everyone blessed with a little stardom has to be spoiled by it. Thanks Theotis.

CURRENT FAVORITE ALBUM
Red Hot Chili Peppers “Californiacation” and Lil Wayne “Tha Carter 3″

SKATE VID OR INDIVIDUAL PART THAT MAKES YOU WANNA SKATE RECENTLY
Way too many parts but if it had to be 2 its: Sean Malto “And Now” and Transworlds entire “First Love” video

GO-TO-TRICK(S)
Tre flip, Switch flips, Front feebs and switch double fakie ollie grinds

TRAVEL PLANS
I’m trying to enter as many contests as possible. But traveling is expensive these days for flow kids. I’d like to go to Houston for the King of Chicago, to Cali for the Crossroads and hopefully somthin sick like the Dew Tour or somthing haha.

SHOUT-OUTS
tooo many here also/The family forever/Broke family/SD and its inhabitants/Stefan and Theotis, Mike Page and Amanda Huerta/Allen Dehn/Jacob , Alex W, Robert, Dom, Baby G. Ryan Gonzales and Aspen/El Cajon/Skum clique/Ryan Strader/Shaun Mefford/Chris “Uncle Summy” Summers/Ryan Shoreman/Che/Tyler lee/Anthony Baker/Everyone who hated on me and everyone who gave me love, i needed you both and of course Brian “Wally” Walnum Thank you all.

D’on is a true homie and a great skateboarder so you know we’ll be seeing more of him in the future. Keep up the good work Mr. Harris! Now go peep his skate vids on youtube.
